·   BMTPC organised a two days "International Workshop - cum - exhibition on Emerging Technologies" during 24 - 25th November, 2008 at New Delhi. The Workshop was inaugurated by Ms. Kiran Dhingra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Shri S.K. Singh, Joint Secretary (Housing), Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation graced occasion.

 

     

·     BMTPC organized Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of its Demonstration Housing Project on 15th July 2008 at Amethi, Sultanpur. The Ceremony was presided over by Shri Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) in the presence of other Government Officials from the Distt. Admn. Sultanpur, Joint Secretary (H), Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, and other officials of BMTPC. This demonstration project focus at promoting innovative technologies in the region. The salient features of the project are as under:

 

1.           No. of houses                                              :           24 (G+1)

2.           Built up Area of each Unit                        :           38.22 sqm.

3.           Each unit will have one living room, one bedroom, kitchen, one separate bath and WC.

4.           Technologies to be used are:

·       Rat trap bond in bricks for wall masonry

·       Precast Reinforced Brick Panel for roofing

·       Ferrocement shelves and staircases (prefabricated)

·       RCC door and window frames

·       Wood substitute door shutters

 

The Council is in now in the process of issuing notice inviting tender for award of work at the site.

•     BMTPC celebrated its 18th Foundation Day in India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The ceremony was presided over by Hon’ble Minister of State (I/c) for Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation. Secretary (HUPA), Jt. Secretary (HUPA) also participated in the event. During the event ED, BMTPC made an elaborate presentation on the activities of BMTPC since its inception and achievements during the years. The ceremony was also attended by various officials from Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, HUDCO, HPL and other organizations.
• On this occasion, first issue of BMTPC’s quarterly newsletter “Nirman Sarika” was released by the Hon’ble Minister for HUPA at New Delhi. Apart from the activities of the Council, it proposes to highlights upcoming trends in the building materials sector, events etc. Adequate coverage will be given on emerging disaster resistant construction technologies in the newsletter.
• The Hon’ble Minister for HUPA also launched BMTPC website in a new format. The newly launched site will be more user-friendly and have ready-to-use details on housing designs, disaster resistant features & other activities of the Council. There is a special section entitled ‘Compendium of Technologies for Common Man”, which is meant for technologies for the common man usage.

 

• The Indian Society for Construction Materials and Structures (ISCMS) with the support of BMTPC organized a Short Term Training Programme on PRE-ENGINEERED BUILDINGS. The Training Programme was organized at the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee on May 20-23, 2008.
• In all 75 delegates attended the Training Programme. It included Practicing Architects, Design and Field Engineers from State & Central Government Departments, Indian Army, scientists from research laboratories, Faculty Members Post-Graduate and Research Students from Academic Institutions. The Training Programme was inaugurated by Joint Secretary (Housing), Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India, New Delhi.
• BMTPC in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Lucknow organized two weeks Entrepreneurship Development Training Programme in the field of low cost housing technologies at Gorakhpur, U.P. w.e.f 10th March 2008.
• This programme was inaugurated by Shri S.K. Singh, Jt. Secretary (H), MoHUPA. The objective of the programme was to inculcate spirit of entrepreneurship in the unemployed youth of the Gorakhpur region and to expose them to the available opportunities in the field of manufacturing of various precast building components for application in the housing and building sector. 30 participants attended the Training Programme. The event was widely covered by the local media.
• Organised a Training Programme on modern bamboo structures and Housing at Kaziranga, Assam, from 6-8th March 2008.  About 45 participants attended the Training Programme.
• Five day training on “Disaster Resistant and Quality Construction Practices.” for masons was organized in association with Kesarjan Building Centre, Ahmedabad program from 8th-12th March 2008 in village Kerala, District Ahmedabad, Gujarat. 18 Masons were trained during the programme.
