Mozambique delegation visits BMTPC

His Excellency Mr. Lucas Chomera Jeremias, Governor of Province of Zambezia, Republic of Mozambique, heading a 15-member high level delegation comprising of Directors of important departments of the provincial government visited Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) in New Delhi on 3^rd August, 2004. The delegation was received by the Director General, BMTPC, Shri D. B. N. Rao. The delegation had a detailed meeting to explore possible areas of co-operation in low cost housing. The High Commissioner of the Republic of Mozambique in India, H. E. Mr. Carlos Agostinho Do Rosario also participated in the meeting.

The visiting Governor was highly appreciative of the role played by the Council in propagating waste based, cost-effective, innovative building materials and technologies. The Province of Zambezia has lot of agricultural and industrial wastes which can be converted into useful building materials with the help of BMTPC’s technologies. The visiting Governor sought the help of BMTPC in setting up a few Technology Demonstration-cum-Production-cum-Training Centres in the Province of Zambezia.

The delegation was also apprised of an on-going Govt. of India-UNIDO-Project “Inter-Regional Programme on Capacity Building for Transfer of Energy-Efficient and Eco-Friendly Technologies and Promotion of Local Investment in the Area of Materials based on Local Resources for Low Cost Housing in Africa, Asia and Latin America”. The Ministry of Urban Employment & Poverty Alleviation, Govt. of India is playing a significant role in the implementation of this project. Shri M. Sahu, Project Director, UNIDO, ICAMT explained the project details and solicited support for development of a similar project for Mozambique.

DG, BMTPC, Shri D. B. N. Rao assured of BMTPC’s cooperation in technology transfer in the areas of low-cost, disaster-resistant houses using waste-based and locally available materials, to the Province of Zambezia, Republic of Mozambique.
