Building Materials
and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) constructed its First Model
Demonstration Houses of 252 dwelling units under Valmiki Ambedkar Avas
Yojna (VAMBAY). The land and the financial assistance for the
project was provided by the nodal agencies such as Karnataka Slum
Clearance Board and Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO)
respectively.
On
10th February 2005, 3.30 P.M. Kumari Selja, Hon'ble Minister
of State (Independent Charge) for Urban Employment & Poverty Alleviation,
Government of India, unveiled the plaque and Inaugurated the
First Model Demonstration Housing Project in the presence of Shri Anjan
Murthy, Hon'ble Minister for Housing, Government of Karnataka, Smt.
Chitra Chopra, Secretary, UE & PA, Govt. of India, Smt. Tejaswini
Sriramesh, Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Shri R. Ashok, Hon'ble
Member of Legislative Assembly, Shri Subir Hari Singh, Principal
Secretary, Department of Housing, Government of Karnatal{a and Shri
M.N.Mathur, Executive Director, BMTPC.
Further
Karnataka Slum Clearance' Board has decided to implement Rain Water
Harvesting in the project, the Ministers and dignitaries were taken to see
the demonstration of the same done by Central Ground Water Board.. Later
they went round the project site and had quick glimpse. They also viewed
the exhibition of BMTPC depicting the technologies and salient features of
the demonstration project.
Inaugural Function
The
Inaugural function commenced with an Invocation by Smt. Sridevi. Shri.
Subir Hari Singh, Principal Secretary, Department of Housing, Government
of Karnataka welcomed and introduced the guests, Shri M.N.Mathur,
Executive Director, BMTPC in his Introductory remarks briefed on the
salient features of the project. Later Smt. Chitra Chopra, Secretary, UE &
PA, Govt. of India, delivered Handing over Remarks and officially handed
over the signed documents to Shri Subir Hari Singh, Principal Secretary,
Department of Housing, Government of Karnataka, on this occasion Kumari
Selja presented the blown up image of the project to Shri Anjan Murthy.
Shri
Anjan Murthy, Hon'ble Minister for Housing, Government of Karnataka in
this presidential address urged the Union Minister to provide Bangalore
with adequate central assistance under the Mega city and URIF programme
similar to what has been provided for Mumbai. Kumari Selja, Hon'ble
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Urban Employment & Poverty
Alleviation, Government of India, in her inaugural address said that the
mission named as 'National Mission on Urban Renewal and National
Mission for the Urban Poor' will
take
care the various issues faced by poor in a systematic manner. She further
said that a committee will also be formed to review the National Housing
and Habitat Policy that seeks to address a wide spectrum of shelter needs
for mitigating housing shortage. Smt. Tejaswini Sriramesh, Hon'ble Member
of Parliament, Shri. R. Ashok, Hon'ble Member of Legislative Assembly also
spoke on the occasion. Shri Venkataramana Nayak, Commissioner, Karnataka
Slum Clearance Board proposed Vote of Thanks. Board members of KSCB were
also present on the occasion.
Officials
of various government organizations such as HUDCO, Ministry of UE & PA,
GoI, IPIRTI, KHB, KSCB, RGRHCL, Central Ground Water Board, private
organizations such as RV-TIFAC, Grasim Cements, Natura, large number of
slum dwellers and general public attended the inaugural function.
Approximately about 500 people attended on the occasion.
The
Inaugural function of the First Model Demonstration Housing Project was a
splendid success. The dignitaries who attended the programme have
expressed their appreciation for the quality of construction and
cost-effective construction technologies adopted. The programme has
enhanced the image and visibility of BMTPC in the Southern Region.
This shall further enable BMTPC to strengthen and widen its activities in
this region. There was very good coverage both in electronic and print
media.
