Evaluation of BEAT (Building Emission Assessment Tool) developed by HEAT International, Germany under ALCBT Project

Evaluation of BEAT (Building Emission Assessment Tool) developed by HEAT International, Germany under ALCBT Project

A technical session to evaluate BEAT (Building Emission Assessment Tool) was organised in BMTPC office on 24th April 2026 by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in association with HEAT International, Germany and CII, India. The session was organised by Chairman, Technical Advisory Committee, ALCBT and Executive Director for technical team of BMTPC to evaluate the BEAT tool.

BEAT is a web-based platform developed by HEAT GmbH under the Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) Project, a five-year initiative funded by the Government of Germany (BMWK/IKI) and implemented by GGGI in partnership with ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), EESL, and HEAT International. This Tool calculates carbon emissions throughout a building's entire life cycle.

Features of BEAT highlighted during presentation:

  • It is an open-source web-based platform which calculates carbon emissions throughout a building's entire life cycle.
  • Provides Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Presently covers A1 to A3 stages of embodied energy (Cradle to Gate) i.e. up to manufacturing stage.
  • It also covers Operational Energy Emissions from the energy used to run the building over its lifetime — heating, cooling, lighting & appliances.
  • Flexible Data Entry:  Bill of Quantities (BoQ) or component-based methods have been used

The Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) Project seeks to significantly reduce GHG emissions by catalysing nationwide transitions towards low carbon buildings in Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The project is being implemented across three states (Kerala, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh) in India under the guidance of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and with support of the state-designated agencies.
